RNA NODAVIRUS FAMILY. NOV HAS A WIDE HOST RANGE, EXTENDING
FROM INSECTS TO MAMMALS. THE COAT PROTEIN ASSEMBLES INTO A
T=3 (180 SUBUNITS) CLOSED SHELL, SPECIFICALLY ENCAPSIDATING
GENOMIC RNA. THE RNA ACTS AS A MOLECULAR SWITCH
CONTROLLING THE PARTICLE ARCHITECTURE. THE COAT PROTEIN
UNDERGOES A POST-ASSEMBLY MATURATION CLEAVAGE FORMING BETA
PROTEIN AND 44 RESIDUE LONG GAMMA PEPTIDE. THE CLEAVAGE IS
REQUIRED FOR VIRUS INFECTIVITY. THE OTHER MEMBERS OF
NODAVIRUS FAMILY WHOSE CRYSTAL STRUCTURES ARE AVAILABLE ARE
BLACK BEETLE VIRUS (BBV) AND FLOCK HOUSE VIRUS (FHV). THE
